Everyone knows about the starving student days at University when nobody really has any money and any money they do have is spent on going out. Which means you are basically left to eat Pot Noodles with tap water for the next 4 years of your life. As Financially Smart Teens we wouldn't want to aspire to go through the starving student days and this leads many University aged people to look for ways to make some extra money. Whether you are in Uni or going there in the future these tips should help to leave you less cash strapped than most of the other students.
1. You don't have to be a master chef but can you cook?- Knowing how to cook is a valuable life skill that is needed throughout teen and adult life. However many of the people at Uni have never needed to or just aren't good at cooking. This leads them to order takeaway's all the time (which can get a bit sickly after awhile). If you know how to cook to a decent standard then this is a golden opportunity. You can make meals in bulk and sell them to other students and if you are a good cook then people will jump on the opportunity to have some home cooked food and you can rake in the cash.
2. Interior decorator = Art major- People at Uni are all trying to make their dorm rooms or apartments look and feel like home. This can lead them to spend an extrordinary amount of money on lights, pictures and overall room decoration. If you are into art or are just good at creating things then this could be for you. You can create wall decorations, collages etc and make a killing off of it. If you enjoy being creative then this is definitely something I recommend.
3. Personal shopping for the lazy- Uni students are either really busy or really lazy so why not capitalise on this. You can get people to pay you to do their shopping for them which doesn't require much effort especially if you do it during your weekly shop. This can put a few extra bucks in your pocket and it is easy money.
4. At home hairdresser- As I said before it isn't called the starving student days for no reason and if you want to eat well or go out more then becoming an at home hairdresser could be for you. This one is a bit more specialised because I'm sure people would get very angry if you mess up their hair. However even if you aren't a professional most people won't care as they just want to look good for cheap and if you are good then you could have yourself a nice little Saturday job.
5. Rent out your printer- Many Uni students opt to buy their own printer as they have been told countless stories of how slow the ones at their school library are. This is where you come in with the solution, you can allow people to use your printer for a small fee per page. It may not seem like much but Uni students have to do a lot of printing so you could soon find yourself with loads of cash while putting in zero effort.
This is a just a few of many ways you can earn some extra cash at University. Why not put some of these into practice and tell me how it worked out for you.
